What comes to mind when you think of a cocktail? A fancy glass, garnished with fresh fruit. Maybe a funny straw, too. Yes, this is how we picture a nice longdrink. However, drinks like this have become more than rare – and in Brussels they are hard to find. A Mojito or a Caipirinha are your standard cocktails, served in the same glass as a Latte Macchiato.
So if you are looking for something out of the ordinary you will have to go somewhere upmarket – like the Crystal Lounge. This is actually the Hotel Bar in the Sofitel between Porte de Namur and Louise.
If you are lucky, you might get a seat by the window – offering a view over the boulevard, the lights, the cars – you could think you are in a Metropolis. But you won’t worry about what’s going on outside for long: Be prepared that you will find it hard to chose your drink! The cocktail menu is very extensive – and many of the cocktails have even won awards.
Obviously the cocktails have their price, but it definitely is well invested money, as the presentation of the drinks is fabulous. We went for a calvados cocktail and one with a base of green tea liquor. (Unfortunately can’t remember the names!) The more exiting of the two was the calvados one – great taste and also a little side of cavados-sorbet was served. The green tea cocktail came in a fancy square bottle and with a huge ice ball. We liked!
Needless to say that in a place like this drinks aren’t accompanied by your usual peanuts. We loved the dried vegetable crisps and the wasabi coated snacks.
A nice place if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion!
