Imperial Palace
Not very Royal, but Nice and Cosy

Somehow, no matter which town we are staying in, we always end up at a Chinese restaurant – sooner or later. In Brussels it actually took quite a while – we have been eating our way through waffles, frites and other treats.

On one of our long, long walking trips through town we ended up in Rue du Bailli and found the Chinese Restaurant Imperial Palace (Rue du Bailli 46, 1050 Ixelles). Unlike all the bars around it seemed unpretentious but very cosy. The menu was very reasonably priced, so we popped inside. We were greeted very warmly by a lovely lady who sat us down by the window. We ordered our food (Sping roll, mixed vegetables and sweet&sour-chicken) and drinks. Before you could say “I am hungry” the wine and some prawncrackers were on the table. Again served with such a friendly smile.

The food was good – nothing outstanding but with fresh ingredients and prepared well. But it definitely was/is the welcoming atmosphere that has made us go back again. The best thing is, this restaurant is also opened on Sundays. And it’s not always easy to find a nice place on a Sunday evening.

So get your chopsticks working and give this place a try!
